Dec. 7, Thoughts on Sunday
Thoughts on Sunday:
* We kicked off our new series called X-mas yesterday. We'll be looking into the lives of people involved in the Christmas story.
* Our first was King Herod. Discussed how his desire was to kill Jesus. Related it to how we've allowed ourselves to take Christ out of our own lives. Easy to point finger at others and not realize we're doing the same thing.
*Ask yourself, is there an absence of Jesus in your life? That was our question for the day.
* Music was awesome. Loved how we broke up worship. Sang some jacked up Christmas before the message and three worship at end of message. Feel as if Jesus would have been proud.
* Already received numerous comments on what an awesome day it was. And it was!
* Saw two people give their life to Jesus.
* Hundreds admitted they have allowed the absence of Jesus in their life.
* And hundreds made decisions to change that problem.
* Energy was high and people were having fun during church.
* Gave away an X-Box after a 10 question quiz. It was just the X-BOX. Very funny though.
* I gave several suggestions to help us begin putting Jesus back into Christmas. Here they are again:
Lets look at some ideas on how we can put Jesus back into Christmas:
1. Read and pray together as a family everyday until Christmas morning.
2. You say Merry Christmas instead of the politically correct Happy Holidays.
3. Put up a nativity scene in your yard and not a bunch of reindeer.
4. Don’t buy unneeded gifts and help build a church in Africa.
5. Write the president a letter letting him know you are praying for him instead of always gripping about him.
6. Invite people to 5 Point.
7. Tip a waitress BIG.
8. Call that family member or friend you haven't spoken to in years.
9. Live like a child of God.
10. Help supply for for our Food Pantry.
12. Get off your butt and begin to do something for Jesus.
Some heart breaking news:
* We finished the day by praying for Bob Felton and his family. Bob's wife Pam died of what looks like a massive heart attack on Saturday. Pam was only 39 years old. They have two precious children in the 5th and 6th grades. Bob is a police officer for the city of Easley. The Felton's are very faithful. Pam worked in the Kid Zone. Many Sundays Bob was here in his uniform while still on duty. The Apostle Paul us that when one part of the body hurts we all hurt. I understand this more than ever right now. I hurt for this family. I can't imagine what they're going through. Please stop what you're doing right now and pray for Bob, Riley and Bo.
Christmas will never be the same for them again. But we must understand that Jesus was not taken by surprise. He is still in complete control.
Couple other thoughts:
* The Ugly Truth Marriage series is right around the corner. We will kick it off on January 10th.
* If you've had some tough marital experiences and would be willing to share with me, please respond to this blog.
* Invite someone to worship this Sunday. Gonna be good.
* And remember one of our goals this year is to invite every single person in Pickens County to 5 Point at least one time.
* Do something radical for Jesus this week.
