May 15, Book the staff is reading

The staff and I are usually reading a book together.  We walk through a chapter a week.  At this moment were reading. "Church Planting Landmines, mistakes to avoid in years 2 through 10"  The authors are Tom Nebel and Gary Rohrmayer.  I heard Tom speak at a conference in Orlando a couple of years ago and really enjoyed him.  I read his book and saw how it could help the entire staff.
No reason for me to share everything because you could care less.  But we discussed something yesterday that really hit me.Read this quote by Tom:

"A church which is 0 - 3 years old takes 3 attendees to reach one person for Christ.  A church which is 3 - 10 years old takes 7 attendees to reach one person for Christ.  A church older than 10 years takes 89 attendees to reach one person for Christ."
Bill Hull writes, "The average church in America today sees one adult conversion per year, per 100 in attendance."

I can remember sitting in church year after year growing up and never seeing someone saved or baptized.  Baptisms usually came after Vacation Bible School and they were a bunch of kids that were scared into making a decision to try and avoid hell.  I believe these statistics to be true from personal experience through the years.

Why did this hit me so hard?  Because we are 4 years old and I never want to see it taking 7 attenders to reach one person for Christ.  I want to see one of our attenders reaching seven people for Jesus.  These statistics are absurd.  There is no acceptable excuse for the people of God not reaching out to a lost and dying world.  That was the exact reason Jesus came.

Matthew 9:13
For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

I encouraged our staff to lead the way in evangelism.  It is easy to get wrapped up in church work (which is usually around Christians) and think you are doing God's will.  His will is to find those who are lost and that includes all of us.

Four questions to ask yourself:
1. When was the last time you led someone to Jesus?
2. When was the last time you shared the gospel?
3. When was the last time you prayed for someone to know Christ?
4. When was the last time you actually got out of your box and took a risk for Jesus?

Every born again believer was placed on this earth to glorify Christ.  There is no better way than leading others to the King.
