May 7, Serving our community for Jesus

If you attended 5 Point Sunday you know everyone was challenged to serve others in a capacity out of their norm.  Why would I urge people so strongly to serve others?  Look why Christ himself said about serving:

Mark 10:45
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,

If our desire is to truly reach this community we must do more than just open the doors.  Millions of people have lost faith in the church of today and we must regain their faith.  One way to do that is by being obedient to Christ by serving others.  As I stand on the stage and challenge people I want you to understand I'm smoking what I'm selling.  Here are a list of things I've done to serve others this week:
a. picked up another hitch hiker yesterday.  I was headed to Easley but turned around and gave him a ride to Pickens.  Come to find
out his marriage was falling apart and he was hurting.  Talked for a while and he promised me he would visit our church.
b. I mentioned the lady who lived a few houses down from me last Sunday.  Asked her to have dinner with us and she gladly
accepted.  Didn't know this but she doesn't attend church anywhere.  Hopefully she'll be here Sunday.
c.  We have a house in our neighborhood that lets their grass get knee high.  Deb saw him mowing it couple of weeks ago with a
face mask on.  I would imagine he has some type of breathing problem.  Saturday, me and my boys are going to go and mow his
front and back yard.  Do all the weed eating also.  Great way to get my boys involved in serving others.
d. haven't done it yet, but want to visit a laundry mat and pay for everyones wash and dry.

If we would be willing to look, opportunities to serve others are everywhere.  Hurting people are everywhere.  Not everyone I serve will come to 5 Point and may not even come to know Jesus.  But I've tried.  I've been obedient to my Saviour.  Besides, I try to look at every person I serve as if it were Jesus himself.

Matthew 25:40
"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Some other thoughts:
* Just had a couple come through my office that use to work here.  They grew up in church but now do not believe that Jesus was anything more than a good man.  Why, because they can't see any difference in churched people.  He said, "I had some good experiences in church but that was all they really were."  These are the exact people we must show the love of Jesus to by loving them through our service to them.  Weird how they showed up while I was writing this.
* Sunday is MOTHERS DAY.  Husbands, trying to help you out here.  Get something for your wife.
* My Mom is gone but I just did something really cool for my mother-in-law.  She lives in Virginia so I ordered a dozen red roses for her and had them put the following on the card:
THANK YOU:
 a. for your daughter
 b. for loving me unconditionally
 c. for all you've done for us
She is 70 plus and lives alone. Hope this will brighten her day.
* Don't forget about this Saturday night at New Spring.  6:00 pm at the Greenville campus.  Gonna be awesome.
* Having lunch today with my Grand Sons.
* Teaching New Members class tonight.  Look forward to it.
* 23 days until Africa.
* Starting something new today.  We'll begin to have a walk through of the Sunday service every Thursday at 2:00.  I am going to actually teach my message to Tim and Corey.  Just trying to be better prepared for you and make your worship experiences better.
* Have you signed up for Joe Sangle yet?  Do it.  Seriously, do it right now.  Go to our web-site   www.5pointfellowship.org
*
Have you invited someone to church for this Sunday?  Tell them you'll buy their lunch after worship.  Do what it takes to get people here t hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
* Enough for today.  I will be sharing tomorrow so check back in.  Going to do a better job of writing Monday - Friday.
* Plan on taking lap top to Africa and sharing daily experiences if we have inter net in town anywhere.
