March 11, Obedience
If your a parent or work with people you will understand this statement completely, "obedience makes life so much easier." Can
you imagine asking your children to do something and they actually did it and did so with a smile and no attitude (that might happen in heaven). Instead of following directions people are bad to do one of several things:
1. Complete disobedience
2. Delayed disobedience
3. Partial disobedience
Heres the deal, all three are disobedience. The type of obedience we as parents desire is instant obedience. A good example is Noah. God told him to build an ark, and he did, immediately:
Genesis 6:20-22
Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. [21] You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them." [22] Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
I am no great theologian but can guarantee you Noah's obedience pleased God. Our Heavenly Father is just like us when it comes
to His children, he desires obedience. But the problem is that the majority of Christ followers delay in their obedience, only obeying partially or completely disobeying.
Why is we can see the fault in our children when they are disobedient but we struggle to see our own faults when it comes to disobeying God? I tell my boys all the time, " are preparing for the rest of their life right now." Every time they obey and show me they are maturing I give them more responsibility. God is the same (parable of the talents). I love the way James puts it:
James 2:24
You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
Every day people decide if they are going to obey God or disobey with their words and actions. Here are a few examples we all face:
1. When given the opportunity to share a kind or encouraging word, don't or be mean like everyone else.
2. Tell a little white lie rather than exposing the truth.
3. Giving 10% this Sunday or just 5%? Maybe even less or none.
4. Refusing to forgive someone.
5. Watch TV for hours and never open the Bible.
Right now, Literally. Ask God to help you be obedient in everything. Set the example for your children. I know how proud I am of
my children when they are obedient, just imagine the joy we bring our heavenly Father with our obedience.
Couple of thoughts:
* Really looking forward to attending Unleashed tomorrow with 34 others from 5 Point.
* We have over 100,000 Easter eggs. But we need more candy. Please bring individually wrapped candy to church Sunday.
* We've had people here all week stuffing eggs. Thank you so much for your help.
* Don't forget we'll be stuffing all day Saturday. People will be here form 10:00 am until................
* I love this weather but dread seeing the cold coming back.
* Please be praying with me for April 4th (our egg drop). Begin by praying for incredible weather. We really don't have a plan b.
Not to many places indoors big enough to put a hot air balloon in. Pray people see our love for the community.
* Staff working hard making all the preparations.
* I am purposely speaking less this Sunday and having more worship time. Felt as if God wanted a longer period of worship.
Tim and I picked out songs everyone knows. Begging God to stir hearts as we sing our praises to the king.
* Starting our PMS man series this Sunday and it is going to really challenge everyone here. Bring a friend and come.
* Can you believe Easter is almost here? Already asking God to do something God Sized that day.
* Spent time with three more marriages this week. My heart breaks for couples with bad marriages.
* So thankful for Deb and our marriage. We will be married 29 years next month. God bless her.
* Enough for now. Won't write anything until tomorrow afternoon upon returning from Unleashed.
