When you hear the word spiritual, what do you think of?  The guy who reads his or her Bible every day (for hours at a time) prays for several more hours, never gets mad, gives the church A LOT of money and has a perfect family.  Isn't that what most think?  I don't think of that as being spiritual but as being a saint!

What put Jesus on the cross was people just like me and you.  People who are all messed up spiritually.  But it is people like us who Christ came for:

Mark 2:17 
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

And the reason Jesus came was so that messy people could become Godly people.  In fact, truth of the matter is that anyone can be spiritual.  Because spiritual is not a formula, its about a relationship.  Spirituality is not about perfection but connection.  Accepting the messiness of our lives is the first step of spiritualness.

So many think they need to get their life cleaned up before they can come to Jesus.  It is the other way around, Jesus cleans us up and draws us to him.  We meet Jesus in the middle of our messiness.  Being spiritual is all about finding Jesus.  All that other stuff will follow the deeper we fall in love with Jesus.  When we realize that Jesus isn't discouraged by our humanity, by our messiness, the sooner we can look into his eyes and see the love he has for us.

Your probably thinking why the rant about how screwed up all of us are?  Good question.  Because I have such a burden to reach this community of screwed up people and 99.9% of them are messy.  They are not spiritual at all in the way we think of spiritualness.  And for us to reach them we must begin to get dirty. 

Please pray with me that Jesus reveals to me exactly how to clean up the mess we've made this community.  That we will lovingly accept all the messy people.  That 5 Point will be the church that draws people closer to Jesus and doesn't push them further away.
