September 24, Doing less to be better

I'm in the process of reading Wild Goose Chase by Mark Batterson.  I would encourage anyone wanting to be challenged in their walk with Christ to get one asap.  I read a statement this morning that rocked my world.
I quote, "you can do the work of God at a pace that destroys the work of God in you."

Chew on that for a moment.  Let it sink in.  If you've ever planted a church you can feel the quote.  I about killed myself working during the day (only staff member) and worked late into the night remodeling our theater.  There were times I wanted a 9:00 - 5:00 job like everyone else.  You've been there at some point in your life.

As I continued to read Mark said something else that I believe can help everyone no matter where they are in life right now.  "How you start isn't nearly as important as how you finish."

That hit me square in the eyes.  5 Point is going great.  Lives are being changed, were growing and seeing A LOT of visitors.  But, as I thought about that I quit thinking about just the church and began thinking about my family, my personal walk with Jesus, my physical condition, my relationship with my precious bride.  All sorts of things were running through my mind.

My point; God has allowed me another day.  I can improve in the areas of my life that I'm falling short in.  I can be a better Dad & husband, I can become a better communicator and pastor, I can seek to put Jesus Christ completely and totally in control of my life because what matters isn't how I started but how I end.

Where are you in life right now?  What sin are you dealing with?  What issues are pulling you down?  Remember, you have the opportunity to finish better.  You don't have to stay where you are.  Get up and make a difference in your life and the lives of others.
