September 23, Life Change
Can I be brutally honest with you, being a pastor sometimes sucks. All the heartache in the world today truly breaks my heart. I understand it is part of being a pastor but it still sucks knowing so many people are dealing with so much pain.
Then out of nowhere you receive an e-mail like the one I received yesterday morning. I e-mailed this person back and asked if I could publish her letter (names removed of course) and with their permission, enjoy:
Dear Dean,
I just felt led to leave you some words of encouragement. ________ and I have been coming to 5 point for the past three Sundays and we love it. We are still currently members at _______________ Church. For the last six years this is the only church our children have known. The older they have gotten the more they dislike a traditional style church and it was like pulling teeth to get them to go. My cousin ___________ gave us one of your thin ice cards and right then and there I knew that God was leading us there. _________ and I were on the verge of divorce. We were already talking about putting our home up for sale and how to divide our debt. This church not only has gotten my children excited about church, but your marriage seminars at night have greatly improved our marriage. It has only been 3 weeks but we have gone three weeks with no arguments and really feel God working in our home. We look forward to each Sunday to find out just what God can reveal to us! We have also just gotten our nieces __________ out of Foster care and are trying to give these girls a life that they deserve. Dint get me wrong I love our church at _______ and I still teach GA'S on Wed. but at this point I know that God wants our family at 5 point. You are doing a wonderful job at ministry and you and Deb have truly let God use you guys to help my family, and for that we are truly blessed. I 'm sorry that Jacob int feeling well, my prayers are with you. Please lift our family up in prayer as we make the transition of having two extra children in the home,(which now make ____) We just wanted to say thank you and know that God's will is being done through you and your church.
