September 17, Teaching your children
Last Sunday we discussed the 4 T's of real manhood in loving our wives. They were:
1. How we should TREAT our wives - the way we treat our wives says a lot about how much we love them.
2. The way we TALK to our wives - Colossians 3:19 tells us not to be harsh with our wives.
3. It is the responsibility of Fathers to TEACH their children the Word of God.
4. Challenged every man to TRUST God with:
a. his life
b. his family
c. his wallet
I received an e-mail from a good friend on Tuesday morning. He wanted me to know he took the challenge and asked his three kids if they would like for him to begin reading and praying with them. They were all three excited and they began that night. That stuff jacks me up. It gets me out of the bed every morning.
I want to share something that happened with my son Monday morning. I always take Jacob to school. Enjoy the ride together talking about life. As we pulled up Monday morning I saw a member of 5 Point dropping off her kids. I could see that one of the boys had tears in his eyes. So I rolled down my window and tried to give him some encouraging words. I prayed for him as I headed to the church and again later in the day.
Late that morning I received a phone call from this mother. She explained to me that God the Father had used my boy Jacob in an incredible manner. Stated that he was truly an answer to prayer. Jacob, my 9 year old son, saw the hurt in this young child's eyes. He helped him through the doors, he carried his book bag and comforted him. Told him everything would be alright. He helped this young child make his first steps and he needed a shoulder to lean on.
I believe us puling up together was not an accident. I believe God has been preparing Jacob for this very event and many others. As we read and pray together we discuss what the scripture means and how we can apply it to our lives. Jacob is by far my smartest child and he wants to analyze everything. As we read through the pages of scripture he has begun to see that helping others plays a large part of Christianity.
Dads, teach your kids how to play football, but teach them the Word of God. Learn it with them and live it before them so that God the Father can use them.
I am so proud of Jacob. I pray for God to use him in an awesome way day after day.
