August 28, Laundry Mat experience
Yesterday evening I headed to the laundry mat around 5:15 thinking it would be full. Wrong again, one person washing clothes. Started to leave but felt really compelled to head on in. I prayed for God to do something special.
Remember, the reasoning behind this adventure was to act upon the message from last Sunday. We discussed the parable of the Good Samaritan. The thought was that if we spent our time and money on someone we could share our Savior.
I walked on in and paid for the one man's drying. $2.00 was total cost. Sat down and started a conversation. Led it towards a spiritual discussion. Making a 35 minute conversation short for you, found out this man had two sons both heading down the wrong path. He had been heavily involved in drugs, alcohol and his wife was gone. Admitted he was lonely and very unhappy. This was all before knowing I was a pastor.
You see, once I spent my time and money on the man, he opened right up. He allowed me to share about Jesus for 15 - 20 minutes. Told me he'd be at church if God laid the desire in his heart. Asked him if I could pray for him and he was very pleased to allow me. Prayed for God to soften his heart and give him the desire.
After praying he thanked me for my time and talking with him. Told me I just might see him Sunday after next.
IT WORKS! Spending your time and money on someone allowed me to share my Savior. The Bible doesn't tell us if the victim in the Good Samaritan received Jesus. We do know that Christ himself said, "go and do like wise." In other words, be a good Samaritan and help those in need.
I'll be making trips to the laundry mat a regular stop. People need to hear about Jesus and I have a little time and money that I'm willing to spend so I can share my Savior.
