August 20, Criticsm

Anytime you deal with people in a leadership role your going to be criticized.  According to Webster criticism means:

Criticism - finding fault, a remark pointing out a fault.

Criticize - to express judgment about.

I've come under some criticism through out the years and have learned that when this happens it is best to:

1.  Understand that people do have a right to their opinion.
2.  Consider the source.  Do they have a desire to tear you down or build you up?
3.  Evaluate the criticism and see if it is actually valid.  This could be an opportunity for growth.
4.  Speak to someone who will tell you what you need to hear and not want to hear if criticism could be true.
5.  Pray about it truly seeking God's will in the matter.
6.  Search the Bible for answers, where does God lead you while you are there.
7.  Let it go if untrue.  This can be difficult for me on certain issues.
8.  Wait until you have cooled off before making any decisions on the issue.
9.  Examine your own heart and motive for remaining firm in your conviction.
10.  If needed, apologize.

Hope this helps you as much as it has me.
