May 7, Church Marque
This past Sunday a friend asked me if I had seen the marque sign of a local church. I hadn't so he shared with me what it said. I wanted to see it for myself so I drove by this morning and even took a picture.

The sign is obviously directed at 5 Point. Years ago I would have written a letter to the pastor explaining how wrong he was, might have even went to his house. But why? What good would it have accomplished? Today, my heart hurts for this pastor, his people and every unchurched person that drives by. Why would anyone want to go to church when the church itself is always fighting?
Just a couple thoughts on how we should handle people when they disagree with our worship experiences and what we believe. Understand, this isn't the first time this has happened. A pretty popular guy named Jesus had the exact same criticism. How did he handle these critics? With love and compassion and that is exactly how we should handle them. Two wrongs never make a right. This is strictly my opinion, but I believe Satan rejoices every time churches fight. He wins every time.
The way I look at churches and how they worship is similar to fishing. Five guys all go to the same lake. All five use different bait. One uses a crank bait, another uses a worm, another uses live bait, another uses a top water plug and the last one uses a spinner bait. All five catch fish but are going about it with different methods.
Churches are in the business of fishing, were just catching men not fish. And we all go about it differently. SO as you come across people with a different mind set, love on them like Jesus. When people tell say your not attending a real church, love on them like Jesus. When people show anger and hatred towards you because of your beliefs, love them like Jesus.
Finishing thought, I've been in a church that literally split and one of the main reasons was due to the style of worship. It was ugly and painful. Many have never returned to church. I never want to run people away from church but draw them into a relationship with Jesus Christ.
