April 15, Africa Mission Trip
It is official. As of right now six 5 Pointers are heading to Tanazania, Africa. We've been trying to nail down the dates and cost and we've finally got it. We're leaving on October 1 and returning October 10. The cost will be anywhere from $2,500 - $3,000 per person. Airline rates change almost daily due to fuel. Trying to lock in on tickets now.
One reason I'm so excited is due to the fact that we'll be helping change lives. The group were traveling with has purchased a building that will eventually be an orphanage for homeless children. Part of our work also includes providing funds to support the children with food, school supplies, clothing, mosquito nets, etc. At some point, we will also purchase goats and chickens to help them to be more self-sufficient. There is also space for a garden. Additionally, we will be providing funds to help support a group of widows and lepers within the community with food for the past year.
Tanzania is the 11th poorest country in the world. The average income is about $250 per year. One of every 12 is infected with HIV/AIDS. Among women and children, malaria is the most prevalent sickness. Within one school, 162 of the children attending school are orphaned.
I have been asked to train pastors. What an awesome honor & privilege. Another opportunity lies within the schools. We'll be able to hold Vacation bible School in the school during the day. That ain't happening in America. We may even be doing some door to door evangelism. I can't wait to see what God has in store for this trip.
The men of 5 Point are sponsoring a yard sale on May 3rd at the church. All proceeds will be going towards funding of this mission trip. Anyone wanting to donate items (we don't want a bunch of junk) we would greatly appreciate. We will need volunteers to assist with the following on May 3rd.
- Transporting donated items to the church.
- Transporting unsold items to charities.
- Organizing/pricing the donated goods.
- Loading sold items if needed.
- Possible transporting sold items if needed.
- Smiling faces to show what 5 Point Fellowship is all about.
You interested in going? Let me know, it's not to late.
