January 10, Back Door
Since 5 Point opened it's doors three years ago God has truly blessed in an awesome way. When I think about the lives that have been changed I am blown away. As I look over the people on Sunday mornings I am truly shocked because I know so many of their stories. I am as excited about our future as I've ever been. But, if there was one thing I could improve it would be our back door. What I mean by that is the people/families that came for a while and have left. I heard Perry Noble address this very subject at a conference last year. He put it better than anyone I've heard thus far.
In the words (summarized) of Perry Noble.
Every church has a back door, somewhat like the human body. If you close the back door of the body, what happens? It's bad! Every person needs to rid himself of the bad. The church is the same way. There are some people if they stayed inside would destroy the church body.
Very well put Perry Noble. But these aren't the ones I'm referring too. I'm talking about the people who seemed to have bought into the vision, attend for a while and then seem to vanish. I've spoken to numerous pastors about this subject and every one of them face the same problem. So then, what is the solution? I wish I had a sure fire answer. I'd write a book in a heart beat. But since I don't, I've really been praying, begging God for the answer. Asking for wisdom on how to address this situation.
One thing I believe we should do is give these folks a call and let them know they are missed. But I can't call all of them. But with your help, WE could call every single one. Here is my question, would you be willing to help me reach out to some hurting people. A lot of times the reason people quit coming is because life stinks. When you're not in the habit of attending church it's easy to get out of the habit.
If you're willing to help, give the church a call. shoot me an e-mail and we'll begin trying to close that back door.
Pray about Sunday with me. It's gonna be a good day!
