November 2 - Experience the Difference
I just received another hate phone call. Soon as I saw restricted number on the caller ID I knew it wasn't gonna be good. A woman immediately began attacking. Her attack was directed at our marquee, "God loves Sex"
She found this to be very offensive. I tried to explain to her that God loves sex is everywhere in scripture. She wanted the words, God loves sex in a verse. The Bible doesn't say, do no molest children, but the theme runs through out. I was very polite and finally told her we would have to agree to disagree. 5 Point wasn't about reaching church people but the unchurched. She hung up not impressed with my responses. These types of phone conversations and e-mails are becoming more and more frequent. To be honest, they really don't bother me anymore. as I stated earlier in the week, "Dogs don't bark at parked cars."
Here lies the problem, she was very rude, hung up on me and told me I offended her with those words. My heart breaks for people with this type mind set. Do unto others as I want but expect Christ type actions towards me.
Our motto is experience the difference. Basically everything we do is different from a standard church in Pickens County. We use the same Bible but teach it in a different fashion.
This slogan has begun to mean a great deal more to me this year. I want more than the way we do church to be different, I want the people of 5 Point to be different. I truly desire for people to see us as the church trying to make a difference in the lives of others and not just ourselves. The church willing to get out of our box and feel a little uncomfortable to show the love of Christ. Yes, God does love sex, but he loves every single person walking the streets of our community also.
Pray with me that we'll never show this hateful type of attitude I received today toward another church or another person. Remember, its easy to love the love ables, but its tough to love the unlovables.
EXPERIENCE THE DIFFERENCE - It's as if Jesus looked me in the eye this morning and said this very thing. Dean, experience the difference with and through me. Show people the difference a walk with Christ can make in their life. Let's make 5 Point a church that shows a difference.
Please pray for Sunday, truly expecting God to do something awesome. Oh, and by the way, I really believe God loves sex!
