September 6 - How bout them tigers
I attended the Clemson vs. Florida State game this past Monday evening. Took my son Jacob and we had a blast. 15 of us went to Clemson around 4:00 and tail gated until 7:00. Good food and good fellowship. Topped off by an impressive win by the tigers. I debated to say anything about my tigers but just couldn't resist.
As I entered into the stadium I was amazed at the orange. Not sure if there were any empty seats in Death Valley. 90% plus we're wearing orange. The stadium was rocking with fans cheering their team on.
I can remember playing against Georgia. Coach Vander Hayden hollered my name and just like that I was on the field with all that orange cheering me on. It was awesome! Graded out really high that game. That means I played well to all those non football readers.
This past Monday night I had some thoughts I'd never had before at a Clemson game.
1. Excitement - What if we as Christians were as excited about worshiping Jesus as 80,000 plus fans were about the tigers? We could literally change the world, much less just our own community.
2. Uniforms - What about all that orange? Fans were proud to display their team colors. No doubt who was a Clemson fan and who was a Seminole fan. Sometimes I can't figure out what team people are on. The worlds or that of Jesus Christ. If were going to be on God's team, then wear your colors and let the world know it.
3. Money - The money spent to attend a game. Gas to get there, tickets, food to tail gate, drinks in stadium, program and the list could go on. Why is it that the majority of churches struggle financially? Could it be that we spend our money on what we love? If you want to see what someone really loves, just look at their check book. This isn't a plea for money. God is blessing 5 Point. Just find it puzzling that people who claim to be on God's team and say they don't have the money to give to their savior find a way to have everything else.
4. Worship - People were going nuts every time Clemson did something remotely good. Faces are painted (for some entire bodies) hoping to get players autographs. But some of those same people will be in church Sunday with hands in their pockets acting as if they're miserable. You can truly tell what someone worships by their actions.
Yes, I am a tiger fan. Head to toe. But, I hope people see that I worship Jesus Christ, my super hero!
