August 7 - Accountability
Since I've been so honest about my evaluation process several people have commented on how they need to take a deeper look inside. I really thought I was a good person. A good Dad, good husband, hard worker for Jesus Christ. I was all these things, only problem was that I was comparing myself to others and not Jesus Christ.
This process started for me several years ago when I began meeting with a good friend (Terry Wood - now on staff here) and asking each other 10 tough questions. We we're brutally honest with each other and I realized I wasn't quite the person I thought.
We all need accountability and these questions are a great tool for evaluation also. I'd encourage everyone to begin looking inside and see if there are some needed improvements.
After you pick someone you trust dearly (pray about this person) set up some guide lines. Here are a few to start with:
* What is said stays between us
* Meet on a regular basis
* Meet with the same gender
* Be honest with each other
Accountability Questions
- Have you spent daily time in the Scripture and in prayer?
- Have you had any flirtatious or lustful attitudes, tempting thoughts, or exposed yourself to any explicit materials, which would not glorify God?
- Have you been completely above reproach in your financial dealings?
- Have you spent quality relationship time with family and friends?
- Have you done your 100 percent best in your job, school, etc.?
- Have you told any half-truths or outright lies, putting yourself in a better light to those around you?
- Have you shared the Gospel with an unbeliever this week?
- Have you taken care of your body through daily physical exercise and proper eating/sleeping habits?
- Have you allowed any person or circumstance to rob you of your joy?
- Have you lied to us on any of your answers today?
Let me know if this helps!
